Xiulian Sun graduated from medical
college of Nankai University in 2001, she worked as a physician in the hospital
for a year. She was admitted in the Neuroscience program at University of British
Columbia in 2002. She has been working with Dr. Weihong Song in studying the
pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s Disease
(AD). Her Ph.D research has in the first time discovered that increases of
BACE1 and DSCR1 contribute to the pathogenesis of AD. Also her discovery of
that BACE2, a secretase that cleaves APP at a novel site and decreases beta
amyloid production, may shed new light on the drug development for AD. Her
research has been published in four high impact factor journals and highly
advances our understanding of AD pathogenesis.

Informatics Circle of Research Excellence (iCORE)奖学金。
Xiaodi
Zhang received her B.Sc. and M. Sc. degrees from the Xi’an Jiaotong
University. From September 2002 to January 2007, she studied at the University
of Alberta for her Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Professor Norman C.
Beaulieu, a distinguish scholar, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Fellow
of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and the former Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE
Transactions on Communications. Her research focuses on the effects
of antenna correlation and co-channel interference on the performance of
wireless multiple antenna systems, which is one of the fundamental topics in
wireless communications. So far, she has published 12 SCI journal papers and
15 international conference papers. She has been acting as a reviewer for many
international journals and conferences. She was also a recipient of Alberta
Ingenuity Studentships and Informatics Circle of Research Excellence (iCORE) studentships from 2003
to 2007. The contributions of Dr. Xiaodi Zhang’s research include: 1)
analyzing the performance of wireless multiple antenna systems with correlated
antennas using different diversity schemes over various fading channels and
proposing new diversity combining methods to achieve a good compromise between
system performance and system complexity; 2) research on the relationship
between the number of correlated antennas and the performance of multiple
antenna systems in the presence of co-channel interference to explore the best
number of antennas for practical system design.
